We Are Licensed
IMPORTANT: If you hire a non-licensed contractor to perform work when a license is required, even if the contractor gets someone else to pull a permit for them, YOU are at risk of having to pay double for the work! This is because the law states that the company that you pay to do the work must be the company that pulls the permit unless that company is working for a General Contractor as a licensed sub-contractor. If your contractor is caught doing work without a license, they may be forced to remove everything even if you have already paid for it. You would then be forced to hire a licensed contractor to do the work and have to pay them as well! As a minimum, when you hire any contractor, you should always do the following:
- Check with your local AHJ (Area Having Jurisdiction) or Municipality to see if a permit is required for the work to be performed.
- Check the contractor for an active license that qualifies them to legally perform the work using this link. A BUSINESS LICENSE IS NOT THE SAME AS A CONTRACTOR LICENSE!
- Ask the contractor for a copy of their license as well as their current insurance information and make sure they have enough insurance to cover the job.
- Ask the contractor to include you or your company as an "additional insured" so you are fully covered.
- Ask the contractor to provide a signed and notarized lien release before you pay them a dime! If they require a down payment, ask them for a partial lien release. When the job is complete, ask them for a lien release upon final payment.
